My coworker Trace recently passed along the song Rise by Robbie Seay Band. He passed it along framing it as a song with hopeful lyrics that never got cheesy.
The song starts with a simple riff that shapes the melody of the entire song. Seay begins singing and he sounds like a raspier version of Isaac Slade from The Fray. They have a similar sound to The Fray as well…not quite piano driven; but the piano is definitely present.
The chorus is the focal point of this song and the entire song is about people rising to meet the needs of those around them in need.
“People of love, rise. Give yourself away.”
It’s rare that a song with lyrics of this nature can be written without making me want to gag; but I’m in agreement with Trace on this one. It never passes into the territory or hippie cheese music. And the melody of the song, while a little poppy for my liking, is catchy and has inspired more than one repeats.
All that being said, do not visit there YouTube site, as it sort of made me want to not like their music (I realize that you will now immediately check out YouTube; but notice a lack of enabling linkage). If by some fluke chance a band member reads this, please email me so I can dissuade you from your crappy YouTube campaign that takes away from your music rather than adds to it.
Anyhow, check it out Robbie Seay Band - Rise.

I’ve been listening to the Robbie Seay Band for a while now and they have a great sound. Their song ‘rise’ is one of my favorites. A bit poppy, like you said, but not enough to bother me. And that’s saying a lot since my cheese factor is through the roof.
Hah! Glad you like their stuff, Rob. And your cheese factor is through the roof.
